Music to excite and thrill. It comes in full orchestral color. It
comes in small instrumental combinations. The subjects range from
nuclear aircraft carriers going back through time warps to boy and dog
hopelessly lost in the wilderness.
The
title refers to a wonderful Arab steed named Sham. Sham was born with certain
markings, considered to be unlucky, which meant that he should be put to
death. The stable master could not bring himself to carry out the sentence.
Sham was smuggled out of the stable in the care of Agba, a mute Arab boy.
They traveled from North Africa through France, and eventually to England.
After many adventures Sham is recognized as a possible racehorse. Lath,
son of Sham is destined to become the real champion. And so the English
racing thoroughbred came into being.
The
music tells of the love and devotion between Agba and Sham. It sings out
for the boy who could not speak. It tells of their difficult, nigh impossible
journey to England. It cries out for their pain when they are separated
from each other. Agba goes to prison and Sham becomes acarthorse. It rejoices
at their reunion and celebrates their victories. This is a vividly colorful
and emotional score.
This
is an epic adventure story about a dog and survival. The music speaks of
love and devotion. There is suspense music, savage animal music, storm at
sea music, music to starve to, and dogs sixth sense music.
Hopelessly
lost in the forests of British Columbia, survival is difficult. Yellow
Dog leads Angus back to civilization then tumbles thousands of feet into
the raging waters and rocks below. There can be no chance of survival
for Yellow Dog. Now safely restored to his family, Angus mourns the loss
of his best friend. The weeks pass. Then one morning Angus senses something.
There is something in the distance. As the something gets nearer the music
builds. Yellow Dog has returned. The impassioned music brings tears of
joy to the eyes.
Rudyard
Kipling is the author of this classic adventure set in the jungles of India.
The score is rich with themes for each of the animal characters as well
as the goodies and baddies. The "Law of the Jungle" theme is noble
and classically imposing with a definite flavor of the Indian subcontinent.
The Lost City is full of mystery and foreboding, while Mowglis theme
is full of inquisitive excitement. Baloo, the bear, Timo, the monkey, Kaa,
the python, and Shere Khan, the tiger all have their own distinctive themes.
Desert
islands, pirates, shipwrecks, black panthers, snakes, monkeys and all the
rest, give reason for a most exciting and colorful score. The Swiss Family
Robinson story is retold in todays world, and it works a treat.
The
main theme has a touch of the Caribbean. The Desert Island theme betrays
a touch of Hawaiian. A dark and menacing pirate theme permeates the score.
Young love themes emerge when Shane falls in love with a wild girl. A
crazy barn dance accompanies the familys futile attempt to catch
wild turkeys. Big Red, a most engaging orangutan, has his own special
theme. This is action adventure music at its best.
The
true story of the IRA kidnapping a champion racehorse, and how Shergar vanished
from the face of the earth, when the ransom was not forthcoming, is the
basis of this fictional account of what might have happened. Dennis
Lewiston, author and film director, conceived the story while listening
to the Vaughan Williams oboe concerto. He engaged Scott knowing of his penchant
for classical music.
The
beauty of the Irish countryside is a prime element in the music score,
but there is also a fair share of dark dramatic skullduggery. Love flourishes
between Kate Maguire and Kevin Doherty while Doherty and Shergar are relentlessly
pursued by the IRA. A superlative action adventure music score.
