The
Music takes you on voyages of discovery. Accompany Jacques Cousteau as
he navigates the Amazon. Listen to the awe inspiring music of the Dominion
of the Blue Whale. This is highly emotional and deeply personal music.
Epic
adventure as Cousteaus wind ship, Alcyon, charts its course around
the notorious Cape Horn. The music ranges from hard driven adventure,
through inquisitive docudrama and rollicking penguin circus music, to
the eerie evocative "In Paradisum " for the lives that have
perished in the watery graveyard of Cape Horn.
The
flavor of the Amazon in all its awe and primitive
majesty is captured in the music propelled by a combination of ethnic
instruments and rhythms. Experience the spirit of Poraroca. Thrill to
rafting the foaming white water as the team shoots the rapids. Swim with
the pink and gray dolphins, inhabitants of the Amazon waters. The lust
for gold
is portrayed in the propulsive "River of Gold" music, while
a pair of Brazilian trumpets and a soulful guitar portrays a lone prospector.
The
history of the Indians and the nature of the forest, home of the Indians,
are brought to musical life with simple ethnic sounding instruments and
a flavor of regional folk music. The annual Ice Festival takes place in
Peru and is portrayed by simple melodies performed on accordion, pipes and
ethnic percussion. The "Snowstorm in the Jungle" refers to the
drug trade, which leaves a trail of misery and destruction for all to see.
The music for these films is partly orchestral and partly action-adventure.
There are moments of musical pathos, witnessing the misery man inflicts
on man.
This
music score was commissioned to accompany the Parc Oceanique exhibition
in Paris. Music of great majesty conjures up the "Dominion of the
Blue Whale" whilst other music takes you deep into the bosom of the
ocean. This is music of elemental and monumental proportions.
The
music for "Saint Lawrence" is a powerful tone poem charting
the progress of the Calypso as it navigates the Saint Lawrence River.
A ghostly waltz accompanies the teams investigation of the wreck
of "The Empress of Ireland" which, like hundreds of other ships,
lies victim of the treacherous waters. A ballad tells of the frightening
storms on the Great Lakes. Another part of the tone poem portrays history
and habits of the Indians. The score recalls the whole epic experience.
This
is music about achievement. The monumental achievements of Jacques Yves
Cousteau as he reaches his seventy-fifth year are illustrated in a program
of musical tableaus ranging from early childhood, through to the man on
a crusade to save the planet. The music is as wide ranging as Cousteaus
life.
The
youthful Cousteau is portrayed with partly sensitive and partly silent-movie
slapstick music. The mood becomes more regimental as Cousteau enters the
Naval Academy. A tableau of great beauty reflects the excitement of his
early dives. Inherent mystery and tension enter the music as Cousteau
reaches deeper into the bosom of the ocean. A highly romantic idyll accompanies
the Calypso voyages with his young family aboard. And finally Cousteaus
crusade, ushering in a warning for the future of the planet.
"The
Warm Blooded Sea" is one of John Scotts favorite scores. It
is wide ranging and contains some of his most moving music. The warmth
and beauty of the Patagonia whales and the cold sensitivity of the arctic
Harp seal are musical studies magnificently performed by the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra.
The
sources for the "Papua New Guinea" film music score are (1) authentic
percussion music, (2) Second World War popular music, and (3) action-adventure
film music. The three films that comprise the Papua New Guinea triptique
explore the territory and customs of the Indians who lived in total isolation
from the rest of the world until they were jolted into the twentieth century
by the barbarism of world war two.
The
excitement of crossing the Atlantic aboard the historic three masted "Belem"
with sails set , running before the wind. Exploring the Amazon rain forest,
reliving the search for Moby Dick, surviving the devastating eruption of
Mount PelŽ, all this is symphonically illustrated in this magnificent adventure.
