The Gold Rush. "The North Star" is an epic story of gold fever,
starring Christophe Lambert (a half-breed) and James Caan (a ruthless
murderer). The music is sweeping, majestic and filled with suspense.
This
is a hard core action adventure score in the Western genre. It tells of
the greed of the white invaders violating the Indians sacred places.
Some of John Scotts most exciting and bizarre music is incorporated
into this score. The main theme is of monumental proportion. There are
some wonderfully tender moments. There is also some spine chilling orchestration
as McLennon, the real bad baddie, descends into madness.
Rudyard
Kipling is the author of this classic adventure set in the jungles of
India. The score is rich with themes for each of the animal characters
as well as the goodies and baddies. The "Law of the Jungle"
theme is noble and classically imposing with a definite flavor of the
Indian subcontinent. The Lost City is full of mystery and foreboding,
while Mowglis theme is full of inquisitive excitement. Baloo, the
bear, Timo, the monkey, Kaa, the python, and Shere Khan, the tiger all
have their own distinctive themes.
